1:45 P.M. Well we got some things straighten out yesterday, the insurance is only going to pay another week or so of therapy, and Stacey will come home, they will pay for day rehab. which means that I will take her to St.Louis for her rehab. therapy unless they find a closer rehab that the insurance will approve of,they are looking into this now, but for now this is the best I could do for her, I think it is the best because this way she will still be getting the rehab. she needs and everything else she needs I can give her here at home, then I won't have to worry about her. Thank you everyone for everything, prayers, the continuous support, and for just being there for us. God Bless.

Kim,
They CANNOT force her out as long as she has broken bones and a fever e.g. infections and diarrhea that are so dangerous to her that she could die from them; in her case that is true; you get her home when immediate medical intervention is not possible and that could happen; write the bastards a letter; I will help you draft it; send it certified mail and let them know that you are dead serious and will sue them for everything they are worth if they discharge her before she is alert and able to function without a fever and infection; she is so dangerously thin that she requires hospital monitoring; some peon is making these decisions; you need to reach the upper level admin of that company and tell them what time it is; they WILL NOT risk a wrongful death lawsuit, believe me. If you doctor is telling them they she needs to be hospitalized longer, they must do it OR St. John's must do it free; go to the hospital administrator and talk to him/her and be vehement; they are obliged to pay where there is no insurance; besides Stacey is eligible for Medicaid/Medicare for disability right now and that could pay for it; apply NOW and the coverage will go back to the date of application and that could cover the hospital; there are ALL KINDS of things you can do to keep her there KIM...do not take her home yet; not until she is safe; promise me!!!! I will help you do any or all of this; just call me and say when!!! Hugs and love, Donna
Kim,
Donna is absolutely right. St. John's Mercy is set up with the Sister's of Mercy who are the ones that will foot the bill when insurance stops. But the insurance company needs to be held accountable as well as the hospital. There is a clause some where that says you can't sue the insurance company which makes the doctor's take full responsibility. This will be a fight for you Kim but you must pick this battle and do your best to win. Even once she is home you need a way to transport Stacey safely as well as it can't be a good idea to take her from home everyday or even twice a week into the weather amongst a bunch of people with God knows what. I checked for rehabs locally for you and there simply isn't any for brain injury patients. St. Louis or Columbia are your only options. Regardless, Kim, don't let them send you home with Stacey empty handed. They should have mentioned home health and all equipment being provided including a lift and chair and etc. If these things haven't been mentioned or set up or provided then they aren't anymore ready for Stacey to leave that hospital then she is. They can not release her with ongoing infections and a broken collar bone that could easily cause a pulmonary thrombosis (Blood Clot in the lung) for someone in the shape that Stacey is in. I hope this helps and if you need anything ANYTHING please call or come by. I will do everything in my power to help you out.
Loretta
Kim,
I hate writing what I have to say because I am afraid someone will misinterupt or take me wrong. I just want to let you know that my family and I will support you in any decision that you make and try to help anyway that we can. But as far as the bills Sister's of Mercy may be an option. I haven't seen Stacey myself and she is your daughter and the doctor's patient so I can't possibly tell you what is best for Stacey or you but I can try to help you with alittle advice. All I ask is that you make sure, if all else fails and they want to send her home, that they have supplied you with everything you need to truely take care of Stacey the best you can. What I mean is, having all necessary equipment and skilled nursing set up in your home BEFORE she comes home. That may buy you some more time in the hospital. Alot of times the hospital gets so caught up in the immediate care and insurance that they forget about what will really be needed at home. There should be a social worker at the hospital on Stacey's case if she is being sent home that will have all the answers that you are looking for including resources to help you find what they can't personally supply. Inevidably Stacey will come home before she is alert but like you said at least she will be home.
I am sorry if I said anything to upset you, like you don't have enough to worry about as it is. Please call me. I plan on calling you tomorrow with the list that you asked for maybe we can talk then.
God Bless,
Loretta
